Postmodern Nixie Tube Clock
Real nixie tubes are the "LEDs" of yesteryear. They proudly displayed their digits on scientific equipment, voltmeters, counters, and control panels. While they're no longer in production, the company that makes these has managed to scrounge up some from the Eastern European region of the former Soviet Union. Ceramic Lights
Christo Logan recently launched two.parts, a series of 3D printed ceramic pendants that illuminate the fixture with an invisible LED bulb. When looking at each design lit, it looks as if the light is coming from the interior surface instead of the hidden bulb. Using age old ceramic and coupling that with digital modeling and fabrication, it allows for complex hollow structures. By merging the two technologies, they’re able to make fixtures that conceal the LEDs, wiring, diffusers, and custom hardware, giving them a streamlined and modern look. Once the fixtures are glazed and fired, you’d never know they were 3D printed. (at Design Milk)
